First of all you need to know that a Norway cruise is only offered during the summer, and typically only in the later part of the summer to make the weather the most appealing to guests. In 2026 the Disney Dream only sailed to Norway for 3 voyages the entire summer. Part of that is the weather, they do Norway sailings the end of July and very beginning of August. The other reason is simply there are lots of amazing places to see in Europe and they curretnly only have one ship sailing Europe during the summer. Before Norway the ship is sailing the mediterranean and after Norway the ship does a British Isles cruise.

In the past, the Disney Magic has sailed to Norway. And next year, in 2027, the Disney Wish will be visiting the beautiful European ports including Norweigan Fjords!

You may think you need to take lots of excursions to see Norway, but you really don’t. Don’t get me wrong, a shore excursion will allow you to get farther into the country and see some unique sites, but you don’t NEED a shore excursion to see the fjords or charming Norweigan countryside. From deck you will go in and out of Fjords as you navigate to and from port. Just make sure you plan to be on deck to enjoy the amazing view! You will see mountains, dramatic views, picturesque homes and villages, plus so much more!

Our guide told us the Norweigan coastline (because of all the fjords) is so long that if you stretehced it out it would go around the Earth, along the equator, three times! That’s a lot of beautiful coastline!

Here are some things you should know about visiting Norway!

Norweigan Cruise Weather

First, the weather can change a lot. Locals joke about you can get all 4 seasons in one day. So what does that mean for you? You will want to bring a variety of clothing options and plan to layer. We wore long pants exclusively, although some locals were wearing shorts – it must be their strong Viking blood!

You will want a raincoat as it rains a lot. We were told by locals that it can rain for 3 weeks in a row. So plan that it will rain and be pleasantly surprised if you have a nice day. Disney cruisline will send port excursion guests out with a poncho which is handy, but we were glad to have brought umbrellas and a good raincoat too.

Our weather ended up being pretty nice for Norway, but you may want a warmer jacket, extra pair of socks, or warm hat depending on the weather you end up with! You will want waterproof shoes or plan to bring a change of shoes because your shoes may get wet from rain and puddles.

Remember weather is part of the adventure. You many or may not get a sunny day or those picture-perfect shots, but you will have an amazing time if you are prepared for the changing weather, know what to expect, and have a great attitude!

Norweigan Money

Norway is not part of the European Union so they still retain their own distinct currency called the Norwegian krone (NOK). As you travel through this stunning Scandinavian country, you’ll encounter beautiful banknotes and coins that reflect Norway’s rich culture and history. The krone is divided into 100 øre, although you will mostly see prices listed in kroner. While you should always check the exchange rate before you visit for an up-to-date rate, we found that $1 is about 10 krones.

We found credit cards to be widely accepted and we didnt need to exchange money at all. With that being said, make sure you credit card does not charge foreign transaction fees which can add up quickly. Check out Forbes best no foreign transaction fee credit cards for travel. Personally we use the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey card and have been very pleased! Getting a card without those pesky foregin transaction fees will save you hundreds of dollars on your next vacation!

NOTE: My favorite port for buying souvenirs was Alesund, Norway. There were convenient shops right out of the port, easy to walk there in 5 minutes!

Norweigan Language

The official language in Norway is Norwegian, which has two written forms: Bokmål and Nynorsk. But you will find that many Norwegians speak English, especially in larger cities and among younger generations. Still we found it helpful to have the Google Translate app on our phone with the correct language downloaded. This allowed us to live translate or hear what things were being said, plus translate written langauge from signs right into English. Plus it’s free!

Should I Tip in Norway

Thinking about tipping in Norway? Don’t worry, it’s not necessary! Tipping is neither mandatory nor expected here, as hospitality workers earn fair wages through collective agreements. So feel free to pay the total on your bill without any pressure or guilt.

Here are a couple things you may want to consider before booking your Noreigan Fjord cruise:

Disney European cruises often come with a bigger price tag than the Caribbean counterparts
Norway’s weather is unpredictable and you may have lots of rainy days with out sun
The rain may cause deck parties including the sail away party, pirate party, and color spin dance party to be moved to the atrium making them more crowded and offering abbreviated versions of some of these events
Due to European regulations, there are no fireworks on any European cruises
To preserve the peaceful atmosphere of the area, the ship horn will not be sounded daily and some ship announcements are not made on the open deck
As this cruise is a lot about natural beauty, some children may become bored on the excursions.
With the frequent rain showers, many guests will be looking for things to do inside and the indoor spaces can become quite crowded.
The European menu changes the typical 2nd rotation of food. For many this is a great things offering a lot of seafood dishes. If you are not a fan of seafood, you will be frustrated with the menu and may want to book Palo for one of the later days of the cruise.
