If you are considering which Disney Cruiseship to pick for your next family vacation – I’ve got you covered. Let’s explore the Disney Cruise Line Dream! Set sail on the magnificent Disney Dream, a premier family cruise ship that made waves when it launched in January 2011. As Disney’s third cruise ship, the Disney Cruise Disney Dream boasts a stunning design that combines classic art-deco elegance with modern luxury, all while immersing guests in Disney’s signature storytelling. Measuring an impressive 1,115 feet in length and featuring 14 passenger decks, a DIsney Cruise Dream can accommodate up to 4,000 guests, all attended by a dedicated crew of approximately 1,458 members. One of the ship’s highlights is the lobby, where guests are greeted by a charming statue of Admiral Donald. Meanwhile, the stern of the ship showcases a breathtaking hand-painted carving of Sorcerer Mickey Mouse, complete with his iconic enchanted broomsticks from Fantasia.

Like every Disney Cruise Ship there are certain staples: excellent customer service, rotational dining, three broadway-style shows, movies on the funnel vision pool side and in the Buena Vista theatre, game shows, trivia contests, BINGO, gift shops, deck parties, and free Disney+ movies in your stateroom. But each Disney cruiseship has it’s own unique themes and character that make her special. I will show you the food, kids clubs, staterooms, and more – but let me start by telling you what makes the Disney Dream unique – different from the other ships.

Here are the five things that really set the Disney Dream apart from the other Disney Cruise ships – that you should consider before booking.

The Disney Dream is the 3rd Disney cruise ship. It was larger than the Wonder and Magic that came before it and smaller than the Triton class ships that came after. The Dream has a sister ship who is very nearly identical – the Disney Fantasy.

#1 Goofy Mini-Golf

The Dream is one of only two Disney cruiseships with an onboard mini-golf. This super cute and creative course allows families to play together up on deck and make some memories! It is completely free and perfect for enjoying the ocean air or beauty of a port of call!

#2 – Mid-Ship Detective Agency

Embark on a thrilling adventure with the Midship Detective Agency, a fun and complimentary self-guided interactive game available on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy cruise ships. Grab your interactive card and ship map, and get ready to engage with the enchanting artwork scattered throughout the ship. Using your detective badge, you’ll bring the art to life, setting traps and uncovering clues along the way. You can pick up your detective badge and map on Deck 2, just outside the Enchanted Garden restaurant, or head to Deck 5 in the atrium near the kids’ hallway. Dive into one of three exciting cases: 101 Dalmatians, Muppets, or an art thief. Each adventure features a different villain to keep you guessing!

Hint: You can visit the paintings / clues in any order so if there is another group at your desired spot, just skip ahead. You will need to visit all but 1-2 spots to solve the case!

#3 – Broadway Shows

When we choose which ship to sail on, the onboard entertainment plays a big part in our decision. One of our favorites is the Disney Dream, which features some incredible productions.

• First up is The Golden Mickeys. This show is a delightful celebration of Disney classics, showcasing a variety of beloved movies and songs. It opens with an exciting scene where characters prepare for an awards ceremony, climaxing with a fun appearance by Goofy. As the story unfolds, Enson Benson presents awards and embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Fans will enjoy tunes like You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story, Cruella d’Ville, Let It Go from Frozen, How Far I’ll Go from Moana, and I See the Light from Tangled, among many others.
• Another standout is Beauty and the Beast, which is arguably the most popular show on the ship. This stunning production beautifully retells the iconic tale, leaving audiences in awe. Its excellence has earned it the prestigious Brass Ring Award for Best Theatrical Production.
• Then there’s Believe, which my kids particularly adore. This show features an original story centered around the theme of believing in magic, following a father’s quest to connect with his daughter. It also offers a fantastic medley of classic Disney songs, including favorites from Mary Poppins, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Jungle Book, Princess and the Frog, The Lion King, Tangled, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

#4 – Walk all the way Around Deck 4

While it may seem trivial, the ability to walk completely around Deck 4 is a standout feature for many guests. Whether you’re savoring the ocean breeze while jogging, enjoying a leisurely stroll, or soaking in the views as you sail away, this open space is a true gem!

Unlike our older ships, where walking around feels a bit like navigating a maintenance area at the front, our newest ships offer more limited access. Guests can only walk on the port or starboard sides, requiring a trek through the center of the ship to switch sides.

So go ahead, take a stroll, get your steps in, and relish the beautiful scenery! You’ll find shuffleboard on both sides, convenient water fountains with bottle fillers, and plenty of comfy padded lounge chairs for your relaxation. Enjoy your adventure at sea! Plus 2.5 laps means you’ve walked a mile!

#5 – Itinerary

While we love the Disney cruise ships and experience, there are only so many times you can head to the Carribean! Disney only sends one ship to Europe and right now that is the Dream. You will get to visit the Meditteranean and Norweigan Fjords from the comfort of your moving hotel! While the ships do move around and go different places, I highly recommend you take a look at where the ship is going before deciding what Disney ship to book your next family vacation aboard!

Okay, now that I’ve highlighted some of the best, unique features of this ship – let’s take a look at each area of the ship so you know what kind of vacation you are getting yourself into! Ready?

Disney Oceaneers Club on the Disney Dream

As soon as your children step through the doors of the Oceaneers Club, they enter a realm filled with creativity, fun, and magical experiences. The moment they arrive, they are greeted by friendly and enthusiastic counselors who are dedicated to providing a safe and exciting environment for every child. The Oceaneers Club is thoughtfully designed with various interactive play areas, engaging activities, and themed spaces that will capture the hearts and imaginations of young guests ages 3-10.

One of the main attractions within the Oceaneers Club is the immersive and whimsical play zones inspired by beloved Disney and Pixar stories. You will find the Marvel Studio, Toy Story area, Star Wars Millenium Falcon, and Pixie Hollow too.

The Oceaneers Club also offers an array of structured activities that change daily. From dance parties to treasure hunts and scavenger hunts, there is always something happening to keep the little minds engaged and entertained. Children can join themed celebrations featuring their favorite characters.

Safety and security are top priorities at the Oceaneers Club, ensuring that parents can enjoy their time onboard while their children embark on adventures of their own. Each child is given a wristband for easy identification, and only authorized adults can check them in and out, providing peace of mind to parents looking to experience everything the Disney Dream has to offer. Of course, the fun doesn’t stop there! The Oceaneers Club also features cutting-edge technology, with gaming stations where kids can play the latest video games or engage in interactive experiences that combine fun and education. 

Younger children ages 6 months to 3 years can utilize the Small World nursery which requires an hourly fee while older children have their own spaces with age-appropriate games and activities. The Edge is for kids 11-14 years and Vibe is for kids 14-17 years of age – these older children can check themselves in and out as they like. There are meet-ups on board for young adults ages 18-20. The age requirement for each group is stritcly followed.

Disney Dream Staterooms

Disney staterooms are larger than the cruise standard and many feature the bath and a half that is so helpful to families. Guests can choose from inside, ocean view, or balcony staterooms. There are of course a variety of locations and decks to choose from. In addition there are rooms for handicap guests, conceirge level staterooms, and even a 1 and 2-bedroom suite options.

Unlike other cruiselines there are no configuration varieties which makes it easier in my opinion. Pick the level of room and you will have the same amaizng room stewards, comfy bedding, and amenities no matter your room.

There are a variety of spaces on the ship to hang out in. I do feel like there are fewer centrally located lounges than on the earlier or later ships. So keep that in mind when choosing what disney ship is best for you.

• Deck 3’s Atrium Lobby is the hub of the ship. Not only will you find a magnificent staircase, a charming bronze statue of Donald Duck, and an elegant Art Deco chandelier – but some comfy seating as well.
• Bon Voyage on Deck 3 is a stylish bar in the main lobby where you can unwind with pre-dinner drinks and kick off your evening in style.
• D Lounge is on Deck 4 and features the main family entertainment venue where dance parties, exciting games, and trivia nights bring everyone together for fun and laughter.
• Deck 4 also features Vista Café to purchase coffee with fun Disney character magic, some free treats in the snack case,and 5 or so booths with seating for famlies to read, chat, or play a game. 
• The District on Deck 4 features various areas that have multiple purposes, but are mainy areas for adults to use in the evening such as Skyline, Pink: Wine and Champagne Bar, Pub 687 sports pub, and District Lounge for live piano music
• Meridian on Deck 12 is an adult lounge located between Palo and Remy with outdoor ocean-view patio.
• Conceirge Guests have an additional lounge and outdoor sun deck for relaxing on Deck 12 forward.

Food is a big part of any cruise! Let’s talk about the food options onboard the Disney Dream!

Disney Dream Rotational Dining Rooms

• Animator’s Palate immerses you in a world of animation with an interactive dinner show where your favorite drawings come to life. On shorter sailings the room becomes Rinding Nemo themed and the turtle Crush will talk with some lucky guests seated near screens. On 7 night and longer sailings, guests will get a chance to draw a character that will be brought to life in a one-of-a-kind show filled with Disney whimsey and magic! This is one of our favorite dining rooms and dinner shows! Find this restaurant on deck 4 aft.
• Enchanted Garden on deck 2 plays homage to the gardens of Versailles. Experience a whimsical atmosphere where flowers transition from day to night. I’m not sure if it is the location of this restaurant or what, but my family always seems to experience a lot of motion sickness when we eat here. In addition the menu heavily favors seafood; if that is your favorite you are in luck. If you have n allergy like I do, you may want to schedule Palo or plan to eat poolside on this dining rotation.
• Royal Palace is an elegant dining room that exudes French charm. Adorned with classic Disney princess motifs including a chandelir with Cinderella’s blue glass slippers, this regal space serves timeless French and continental classics to delight your palate. We love the elegance of this space! Expect your best steak, french onion soup, creme brulee, and other favorite dishes served at this wonderful space of the atrium on deck 3.

Disney Dream Casual & Quick-Service Dining

The Disney Dream buffet is called Cabanas and it is on Deck 11 aft. There are a variety of options for breakfast and lunch, but it is closed for dinner.  This is Disney’s weak point in my opinion as the options are limited and don’t change very often. How many chocolate chip cookies and carrot cakes can you eat?! But don’t miss the Churro Waffles on the last full day of the cruise – they are AMAZING!

For food poolside you can find Flo’s Café which includes:

• Luigi’s Pizza: Cheese, pepperoni, and specialty slices
• Tow Mater’s Grill: Burgers, chicken tenders, and fries
• Fillmore’s Favorites: Fresh salads, wraps, fruit bowels
• Ramone’s Cantina:  tacos and build-your-own mexican bowls

Eye Scream Treats: Self-serve soft-serve ice cream station with rotating daily flavors

Frozone Treats: Smoothie bar near the pool deck (extra fee for smoothies)

Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats: Wreck-It Ralph-themed shop with gelato, candy, and specialty sweets (extra fee)

Preludes: Snack bar outside the Walt Disney Theatre for popcorn, candy, and drinks. (extra fee)

Conceirge Lounge for conceirge guests with menu that changes every 2 hours and free drinks every night from 5-10pm

Disney Dream Adult-Exclusive Fine Dining (Extra Fee & Reservations Required)

If you’d like to pay extra for an extra special meal make sure you book as soon as your booking window opens, long before your cruise to get a table at these two popular Adult-only restaurants.

• Discover the culinary delights of Palo, where Northern Italian fine dining meets breathtaking ocean views. Indulge in artisanal antipasto, savor handmade pastas, and treat yourself to our signature chocolate soufflé for a truly unforgettable meal. Palo Brunch is very popular, and for good reason – you get a lot of really good food. Palo dinner is a simpler menu, with melt-in-your-mouth steak.
• Experience Remy, an ultra-gourmet French dining adventure inspired by the beloved film Ratatouille. Our top chefs have crafted sophisticated multi-course tasting menus that elevate dining to an art form. Join us for a memorable gastronomic journey.

Although I’ve briefly mentioned entertainment a couple times, I wanted to really spell out all that Disney offers guests! Family-friendly entertainment is where DIsney Cruise Ships really sets themselves above the competition. They not only offer things to do, they entertain you!

Deck Parties & Nightlife

• Pirate Night – the deck transforms into a lively, swashbuckling celebration! Enjoy themed music, dance the night away, and be dazzled by a breathtaking fireworks display lighting up the night sky over the sea.
• Sailing Away Deck Party— the fun starts right away as Disney invites guests to a memorable send-off as they depart from port, creating unforgettable memories right from the start of your journey.
• Mickey’s Color Spin Dance Party – This exciting, 90s-themed deck party takes place on select on select itineraries. Join Mickey Mouse and his friends, all decked out in their vibrant new outfits, as you dive into a world of colorful fun. With a spinning virtual color wheel that sets the tone for music and dance routines, every moment is packed with energy and excitement.
• For adults seeking a night out, explore The District, our exclusive nighttime entertainment area. Enjoy a fine selection of bubbly at Pink champagne bar, unwind at the Skyline bar, and dance the night away at Evolution, where the energy never stops.

Live Stage Shows

We already discussed the three shows: Golden Mickey’s, Believe, and Beauty and the Beast. In addition there is show every night of the cruise. They may be magic acts, new release movies, musical groups, etc. They are fun if you are looking for something to do, but it is also a great chance to enjoy a late swim or movie under the stars!

Disney Dream Pools

Pools are another major source of entertainment and fun for most cruise guests. The following pools are available for guests on the Disney Dream

• Adults 18+ and over can head over to the Quiet Cove Pool on Deck 11. This pool area features a hot tub, padded loungers, and swim up pool for a peaceful oasis for relaxation. Unfortuantely the location does make for many kids and families walking through the area to get to their areas.
• Dive into fun at Mickey’s Pool and Donald’s Pool on Deck 11, where the whole family can enjoy two fantastic swimming pools, relax in a lounge chair, or catch your favorite movies on the Funnel Vision
• Nemo’s Reef offers a delightful shaded splash zone specially designed for toddlers aged 3 and under. It’s the perfect place to enjoy water play in a safe and engaging environment.
• For those seeking adventure, the AquaDuck is a can’t-miss experience. This thrilling 765-foot-long water coaster starts on Deck 12 and twists and turns over the edge of the ship, delivering an exhilarating ride that you won’t soon forget.

Character Meet and Greets

Every day you and your family will get a chance to meet a wide array of Disney friends. Bring an autograph book, your camera, or just yourself to chat with and meet your favorite Disney character. Although characters do change based on sailings you can expect:

• Classic characters in sailor outfits – Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Donald, Daisy, Chip & Dale
• Classic characters in formal wear on 7 night and longer sailings
• Princess Minnie & Daisy
• Pirate characters – Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Donald, Daisy, Chip & Dale, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Jack Sparrow
• Disney Princesses (may vary slighly, but your best chance to see them is to get a free ticket to the Royal Gathering) – Ariel, Cinderella, Belle, Tiana, Rapunzel, Mulan, and sometimes Jasmine or Snow White
• Spiderman was the only superhero on this sailing

The basic same gameshows are accross the fleet so I’ve included pictures of those gameshows to give you an idea. The stage size may look a little different, but the shows are the same.

While not every dining area is the same level of engaging, they are all special and memorable with things to enjoy.
• Onboard Entertainment – Whether you are looking for things to do during the day or at night, Disney has something for everyone.
