If you are on the fence about whether it is worth flying to Japan Disney, read my thoughts about Tokyo Disney here. Plus don’t miss my indepth look at Tokyo Disneyland park too!
DisneySea Japan
Like I mentioned, this Disney park is in Japan. You will need to buy a date specific ticket to enter – no park hopping allowed. Luckily, park tickest are under $50 for an adult so it is a steal-of-a-deal for a day of fun. I won’t dive into where you should stay because there are lots of great choices, just pick one that fits your budget that has a free shuttle or is within walking distance.
Disneysea Crowds
This is important. Tokyo Disney is really, really crowded! Even on off-season and lower crowd days it is insanely crowded. I highly recommend getting to the park almost 1.5-2 hours before it opens. I know that sounds crazy, but there will already be a line forming. They will let you sit, and locals will bring a paper mat to sit on and an umbrella to shade themselves from the sun. Getting their early ensures you will get in within 15 mintues of the park opening which is essential for getting shorter lines, fastpasses, and lightening lanes! Guests who show up an hour or so before park opens will wait over an hour to even get into the park. And you cannot book their lightening lane equivalent of paid skip-the-line service – called Disney Premier Access (DPA) – until you are in the park.
As soon as you get in you will want to start walking to a priority ride while at the same time booking a Disney Premier Access (paid, but worth the money!) and fastpass (free). Unlike the US coutnerparts, you don’t want to schedule them for later. You want to snag one right away and head to a neighboring ride. You will be allowed to book another DPA when your return time arrives (even if you have not tapped in).
Rides get LONG at Tokyo Disney. Really long! So don’t stop to use the bathroom or take pictures – move to the priority rides. Even if you pay for DPA, get their early, stay unti close, etc. – you will not ride everything. Focus on the rides that matter most to your family and are unique from the ones you typically get to ride. (I will share my thoughts below). If you are lucky you will score 2 free fastpasses and 3-4 DPA paid passes over the course of your day.
Within 1-2 hours of the park being opened, their will be no more DPA or fastpasses available for the major attractions and within 2-3 hours all passes will be gone for the day!

Mysterious Island
As soon as you enter the park start walking towards the volcano and at the same time toggle in your Disney Ap to get a DPA for Journey to the Center. (Quickly snag a free fastpass for Indian Jones). The volcano is the icon for this park and is kid of in the middle. When you enter the park head toward the volcano – straight and slightly right. Walk pass all the people waiting at the city wall for Soarin. You are headed to 20,000 leagues under the sea first. You will almost walk right on as people run elsewhere.

NOTE: As soon as the hour window opens for your DPA for Journey to the Center you can book your next one! So book that while you are still in line for 20,000 leagues so they stack a little bit. I recommend depending on your priorities I suggest you do Rapunzel if that area is a priority or Tower of Terror for the next available window.
- 20,000 leagues Under the Sea (not the same as old US version) – This area is absolutely stuning and so immersive! You will enter a vehicle with 3 benches, each seating two people. Then you will head under the ocean seeing shipwreck, a skeleton, Atlantis, and more. It’s unique and fun.
- Journey to the Center of the Earth – I bet you didn’t eve realize this was a Disey movie! This is one of the main rides and you will ride in a digger looking vehicle through the volcano and encounter a rock/lava monster. It has a Test Track feel at the end as you zoom away and slow down. It is fun, but wasn’t quite as thrilling as we thought it would be.

Lost River Delta
It should be time for your Fastpass you picked for one of these rides and this area is right next door. Sneak this area in as you walk between Fantasy Springs and the rest of the park. You will want a DPA if you are going to ride one of these attractions or plan on spending 2-3 hours in line.
NOTE: As soon as your window opens for this ride get the next free Fastpass, I suggest the other nearby ride or Nemo Simulator. It will probably be for towards the end of the day, but that’s okay. There aren’t a lot of other free fastpass rides available. It is also worth noting you can get the same ride again, assuming it is still available – that is different at Tokyo Disney than the US counterparts.
- Indiana Jones Adventure – sadly this was closed when we visited. Althought it shares the same ride layout and track system as the Disneyland version in California, but it offers a unique theme and storyline that sets it apart.
- Raging Spirits – We had high hopes for this super inviting looking ride that boasts a 360 loop. We found it did not live up the hype, not even a little bit. We found it very tame and a letdown. If you have to skip something, this is not all it is cracked up to be even though it is a unique ride.
👉If you snagged a DPA for Rapunzel or one of these rides, head over here next. Don’t forget to grab another one for Fantasy springs if you can. If instead you snagged it for Tower of Terror, head to Tower of Terror, but choose one of these Fantasy Springs ride for yoru next DPA – assuming you are lucky enough to get 3 today!

Fantasy Springs
This is the newest area and it is beautifully crafted. You will enojoy the rock shapes as you enter, strolling around the giant ship in the middle, and the four rides in the area. The only problem is it is poorly laid out at the far back of the park making it a waste of time to sprint here. I suggest doing this area after Journey to the Center of the Earth and 20,000 leagues under the Sea or saving it for the evening if your DPA lines up better and some lines may be down some. The Snuggly Duckling is my pick here, but the Frozen themed restaurant is also super cute with lots of seating!

- Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival – This ride is so cute, we loved th Flynn and Max characters outside the tunnel and the breathtaking floating lantern scene. We laughed at the Ruffians and then were shocked when it was over just as quickly as it started. This ride is short, like really short. Still great and one of our favorites, but deffinetly get a DPA.
- Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey – while it shares a similar boat ride feel to the Epcot version, we believe this one is superior. However, if you need to make concessions due to time, you can forgo this one.
- Peter Pan’s Neverland Adventure – We have mixed feelings on this ride. I found it so engaging and immersive I was wowed. You start with a little pre-show then your vehicle is a 3 bench pirate ship which moves like it is float in water as you follow Peter Pan and friends around Neverland. So why did we have mixed feelings? It is in 3d and some people in my group found it hard on their eyes, plus you can’t understand anything they are saying in Japenese which makes it a little harder in the way this ride progresses, not in sequential storytelling. We loved doing it once, but were glad we had a DPA.

- Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies – This is a darling little ride with fun things to look at in the que and a whimsical theme, but it is short and more aimed at younger children so don’t wait 1-2 hours! We did this at night and not only was the line shorter, but the garden lights made it extra magical!

This Fantasy springs area is extra charming at night with the soft lights on Elsa’s castle, and on the mountain figures.

👉 At this point all the lines are probably really long. Grab something to eat if it is time. If it’s not time, or after you eat, head to nearby Sinbad’s Storybook voyage and wander thorugh the Arabian Coast area.

Arabian Coast
This Agrabah themed area is stuning! The architecture of the buildings is so beautiful, plus there are so any structures you can really wander the streets so to speak. Fit this in whenever lines are long other areas of park. Enjoy the buildings, characters that wander by, and make take in a ride or two if time allows:
- Caravan Carousel – This is a 2-story carousel with a couple unique items to ride. If you need something to do and the line is short go for it, but I wouldn’t plan your day around it.
- Jasmine’s Flying Carpets – just like the Magic Kingdom version so don’t prioritize it, but if you do ride, you can stand on the 2nd level in the back to get some fun pictures of your riders.

- Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage – this ride was a great surprise! We thought it would be like the Mexico Donald ride at Epcot, but but underrated. THe line is never long, but the boat ride is delightful with fun things to look at. What’s mire, the soudntrack is amazing! The song – “Compass of Your Heart” was composed by Disney legend Alan Menken!
- The Magic Lamp Theatre – I’m sure this would be great if we spoke Japenese. They tell jokes and it looks like a fun show, but we didn’t understand it, although we enjoyed the chance to sit in the air conditioning.
👉 If you have any DPA or Fastpasses still that will dictate the order you do the remainer of the day, but I will just explain the areas for whenever you get there.

Mermaid Lagoon
This area is so cute and absolutely beautiful at night. If you want to ride, do it right away or at the end of the day when the lines are nice and short at 20 minutes. They are all fair like rides with a fun Ariel theme, but surprisingly, no Little Mermaid ride. We enjoyed walking through, but did not prioritze any of them.
- Ariel’s Playground – explore, but not a ride
- Jumpin Jellyfish
- Scuttle’s Scotters
- Flounder’s Flying Fish Coaster
- Blowfish Balloon Race
- Mermaid Lagoon Theatre (closed during our visit)
- The Whirlpool

Mediterranean Harbor
I suggest enjoying this area later in the day when you can slow down and enjoy the beauty of the area! Soarin is very popular and will quickly get a long line. If it is a priority to you, get a DPA within 1-2 hours of park opening. We choose to forgo this ride as it is the same as in the US and we wanted to prioritize the unique attractions.
- Venetian Gondola Rides – we didn’t prioritze this as we’ve been to Venice
- Soaring: Fantastic Flight – same as USA, we didn’t prioritize this
- Transit Steamer Line – boat ride, we didn’t prioritize this
- Fortress Explorations and Leonardo Challenge – looked fun and interactive, but you need to speak Japenese
There is a boat that is fun to explore. The kids loved making the canoon shoot and there is a cute play area by the cannon.

American Waterfront
This area feels like visiting the US so we didn’t put a big priority on hanging out here. It was super cute though and had a lovely park with lots of benches. I would save this for midday, you will want a DPA for Tower of Terror and Toy Story Mania as they typically ahve a 2-3 hour wait all day!

- Turtle Talk – this is in a huge ship that looks so cool, but it is hard to do if you don’t speak Japenese, plus we have this at Epcot
- Tower of Terror – the story is completely different and really fun
- DisneySea Electric Railway – gets you from one part to another, dont’ wait if the line is too long
- Toy Story Mania – the ride is the same, but the super cool giant Woody entrance is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages
- Big City Vehicles – like in the us so we skipped
Port Discovery
This is a smaller, but charming area. It is worth at least walking by and hopefully you can fit a ride or two into your day at some point.
- Aquatopia – unique ride where you spin on tube like boats around a track. If you have time and the line is short it’s fun.
- Nemo and Friends Sea Rider – this is a simulator type ride that is in Japenese, but if is cute if you have time. The outdoor area is themed from Finding Dory and we enjoyed all the details as we waited in line.

Disney Sea Tokyo
If you really want to do everything or most things, you may find you need 2 days at Disney Sea. My recommendation is at least one day for each park as a starter. If you have time, I mean you did fly all the way over to Asia, take a second day for each park. Then add to that 1-2 days exploring Tokyo and Mount Fuji, and perhaps a visit to another city in Japan for a fun, well-rounded vacation!
