1 day trip from london
I’ve been to London many times, but never made it out to see Stonehenge so on this visit I was determined to see this famous site! As this involved a day trip from London, I opted for the ease and convenience of a tour. Our tour picked us up in London and took us to Windsor Castle, Sthonehange, charming Lacock medieval town for lunch, Bath Abbey, and Roman Baths for a truly complete itinerary. It is a long day – over 12 hours, but we are so glad we went!
windsor castle tour
Begin your adventure with a visit to Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world and an official residence of the Queen. Your tour will give you great information al allow you to see the exquisite architecture, explore the State Apartments filled with royal treasures, and walk through the beautiful gardens that surround the castle.
👉 HINT: If you see the Royal Standard (a banner of arms split into four quadrants representing England, Scotland, and Ireland), the King is at the castle.

If you time it just right you can catch the changing of the guards in windsor as well! This happens every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 11:00 AM, witness the New Guard as they march from Victoria Barracks through the town center and into the castle grounds. This impressive procession is accompanied by a lively regimental band. This is great if you missed seeing it at Buckingham Palace!

Don’t miss the chance to visit St. George’s Chapel, a significant site for royal ceremonies, including weddings and funerals. To enter, you’ll need a standard admission ticket to Windsor Castle, which you can purchase at the admissions center. This beautiful chapel is not only a working royal chapel but also the final resting place for noteworthy monarchs like Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth II. Additionally, it serves as the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter.

see stonehenge
After soaking in the royal atmosphere, it’s time to journey to Stonehenge. Just a short drive away, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is shrouded in mystery and intrigue. As you approach, the massive stones come into view, and you can’t help but wonder about their significance and how they were erected over 5,000 years ago.
Take your time exploring the visitor center, which offers fascinating insights into the history and theories surrounding this ancient structure. There are exhibits on the Neolithic Houses the builders of Stonehenge lived in. You can also try moving the large stones and marvel at the skill and effort it took to create such a majestic monument.
Walk around the stones as the view varies as you walk around, snap some photos.

lacock medieval town
Lacock is a picturesque medieval village located in Wiltshire, England, that seems to have effortlessly transported visitors back in time. With its charming streets lined with traditional stone cottages, the village exudes an undeniable sense of history and heritage. Walking through Lacock feels like stepping into a living postcard, where every corner and cobblestone tells a story.
We had lunch included in our tour in Lacock and then had time to wander the charming town and browse in the shops.

Pulteney Bridge
Take a scenic drive past the iconic Historic Pulteney Bridge, where charming shops line the pathway over the River. Continue your journey through The Royal Crescent, a stunning row of 30 terraced houses elegantly arranged in a sweeping crescent shape. This is one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the UK and a must-see when visiting Bath.

Bath Abbey & Roman Baths Museum
We were disappointed to arrive late and miss visiting the Roman Baths Museum and Bath Abbey, which has been a place of worship for over 1,200 years. However, the area was stunning, especially as the sun set. We enjoyed a lovely dinner in the charming town before heading back.
